What to do within the garden this week

Nip the tops off greenhouse tomatoes to encourage the remainder fruit to swell and ripen before the top of the season. Pick any outdoor, full-sized, green tomatoes and convey them inside to ripen if the nights are turning cold.

Plant most spring bulbs, but leave tulips and hyacinths until October or early November as they don’t root until late and should rot whether it is rainy.

Apply an autumn feed to lawns if the soil is moist and growing conditions are good. Delay doing this if the bottom is dry.
